Journey From Bridges to Dental Implants

Before Dental Implants came into the picture, people used to go for traditional methods like tooth-supporting bridges and ceramic implant antwerpen. That procedure involved grinding down healthy teeth to support the bridge. But, it did not work well.

In contrast, a dental Implant is the optimal solution for missing one or more teeth. The quality that implants possess is they feel and function just like our natural teeth root would. In addition, anchoring implants to jaw bone stimulates bone tissue, and gums ensure long-lasting and effective results.

Need of Wisdom Tooth Extraction

extn

Wisdom teeth pulling is generally necessary since they affect the rest of the teeth. The reason for this is that there isn’t usually enough room for them to grow due to the existing teeth. However, they must erupt, so they can grow in any direction in the jaw – even horizontally.

Wisdom tooth removal may be needed for the following reasons:

toothinjury

Injuries to other teeth

An extra molar can cause other teeth to shift around, resulting in discomfort and jaw problems..

jaw 1

Damage to the jaw

A cyst can form around a new tooth. You risk hollowing out your jaw and damaging your nerves if you don’t treat them. Tooth extraction helps reduce these risks.

sinus

Sinus Issues

Wisdom tooth problems can cause sinus pressure, inflammation, and pain. Thus, extraction is needed.

extn 1

Gum inflammation

The gum tissue may swell and become hard to clean.

cavities

Cavities

Bacteria grows in pockets between teeth that are created by swollen gums.

alignment

Alignment

Crowded teeth caused by impacted wisdom teeth may require orthodontic treatment, and even crowding of other teeth may occur.

Wisdom Tooth Removal and Recovery

Before any wisdom teeth removal, an oral examination and dental x-ray exam are conducted to locate the wisdom teeth and to assess whether the wisdom teeth are in the correct position.

Before the procedure, your dental surgeon will assist you in selecting the sedative method that best meets your needs and preferences. Surgery will be performed under a general or local anesthetic. Wisdom teeth surgery typically takes 60-90 minutes.

The time needed to remove the teeth varies greatly based on the difficulty of the procedure. The scar tissue is sutured with dissolvable stitches to minimize the risk of bleeding after removing the wisdom teeth. Upon wearing off the anesthetic, you may experience some discomfort.

Recovery

Usually, it takes between three and six days to recover after a wisdom tooth extraction. It is possible to notice slight bleeding after the procedure has been completed. When the patient opens his mouth after the anesthesia wears off, he might feel resistance.

It may take days after surgery for the wound to heal completely, so you can develop an infection weeks after undergoing surgery. Take care of yourself and pay attention to any symptoms that might indicate trouble.

In most cases, patients’ condition improves when they follow the dentist’s or surgeon’s instructions.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction Aftercare

If you want to recover more quickly, follow your doctor’s instructions. These tips will help you get through the days following surgery:

Do’s:

  • If you experience swelling or changes in your gum color, apply ice to your cheeks or jaw.
  • For a sore jaw, apply moist heat.
  • Gently open and close it.
  • Take easy-chewable foods like soup, pasta, and rice.
  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • From the second day onward, brush your teeth.
  • To ease pain or swelling, take the medications your doctor prescribes.
  • In case of fevers or persistent pain or swelling, contact your dentist.

Don’t’s:

  • Don’t use a straw for drinking. Sucking can help loosen blood clots in the mouth and promote healing.
  • You shouldn’t rinse too harshly. Use dentist-recommended mouthwash.
  • You should refrain from eating brittle, hard, or chewy foods that may scratch your wound.
  • Avoid smoking. You may experience slower healing if you smoke.
  • Make sure you don’t brush against any blood clots.
